We really don't mean to brag, but we honestly believe (because we have been told time and time again) that our nightgowns will be your favorite newborn essential, and they are so well made that you will be passing them down from baby to baby, family to family.

Forget everything you think you know about merino wool - it is not just for the coldest months of the year.  Merino should be used for all newborn babies 365 days of the year for night-time sleeping. 

In fact on those warmer nights, it works better than cotton to help regulate temperature and keep your newborn baby cool. 

Newborn babies can not regulate temperature for up to the first 12 weeks of life - this means they might be cold even when its hot in the house.  So it is really important to use merino against the skin so the merino garment can do the job for them.

Merino will draw the moisture away from your newborn delicate skin when warm and then as the temperature drops (between 3-5am) the merino will push the warmth back into the skin - so they don't wake up because they are cold.

If merino hadn't been invented by nature, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was invented by magic.  Unlike man-made fibres, it helps draw moisture away from your baby or toddler's skin and helps them maintain a safe and comfortable temperature in all weather. 

The ability to absorb moisture is an important function attribute of Merino fibre, but equally important is its ability to release moisture. In contrast to most synthetic fibres, Merino has the capacity to remove large amounts (up to 35% of its own weight) of moisture from the skin surface before the fibre even begins to feel wet. Merino can prevent the 'clamminess' that can occur in environments with high humidity.

Because infants and children have a higher surface area to mass ratio than adults this makes thermal regulation particularly challenging, and choosing the right garment or sleep system for children becomes extremely important - Merino kids are happy kids!

Looking after pure merino wool is not as hard as you think, just follow a few simple rules

DO | feel free to wash your merino in the washing machine on a gentle wool wash cycle.

DO | hand wash your merino if you want to be extra safe and extend the life even more.

DO | make sure you only use a wool approved detergent.

DO | tumble dry your merino on a low heat setting.

DO | remember merino dries fast, so it is quick and easy to line dry your merino, just keep it away from direct sunlight

DON'T | wash your merino at a temperature higher than 40 degrees C.

DON'T | forget to remove your merino from the wash immediately, and never leave to soak as this WILL RESULT IN HOLES.

DON'T | use bleach or NapiSan as this WILL RESULT IN HOLES.

DON'T | rub and/or wring out your merino to remove stains as this WILL RESULT IN HOLES.

Shipping information

We will endeavor to dispatch all orders within 1-2 working days. However, if an item is out of stock a representative from Baby Caterpillar will contact you to discuss an anticipated dispatch time or an alternative.

Our courier pickup is scheduled for 3pm Monday - Friday, therefore orders placed before this time may sometimes even go out the same day for overnight delivery.  Usually, orders placed after this time will go out in the next day's pickup (unless they are on back order, then you will be notified). Courier on rural deliveries will take longer to be delivered. If you require a Saturday delivery, please contact us by phone or text on 021505544 for this to be arranged, otherwise, we do not deliver on Saturdays.  If a signature is required on delivery, please indicate this in the delivery instructions section, otherwise, we do not automatically use this service.

PO BOX deliveries take longer to be delivered as these are not collected by our courier, and need to be sent via a secondary courier system.

International delivery details:

All Australian orders will be delivered within approximately 10-15 working days. All other international orders will be delivered in approximately 10-12 working days. International orders are sent via NZ Post International and are subject to customs rules and regulations.

Tracking orders in New Zealand and Internationally:

Once your order has been collected and scanned by the courier company, if you provided an email address at the checkout, you will receive an email notification allowing you to track and trace the ongoing progress of your order. If you haven't received anything within 3 working days, double check your spam folder.

How long should it generally take to get to me?

New Zealand orders will take 2-4 working days.
Australian orders will take 10-15 working days.
UK & USA orders will take 10-12 working days
International orders that have paid for the EXPRESS courier delivery service should take 5 working days

What if my order is out of stock?

If you have ordered a garment that is out of stock, we will contact you by email, phone or text as soon as possible to advise what options are available.  Most of the time your garment is only our of stock for a few days and we are able to dispatch as soon as possible.

Return & Exchange policy

All goods are returnable for refund or exchange if you change your mind, providing they are returned within 45 days with proof of purchase, (this could include the order number from the emailed or texted order confirmation or a matching bank account transaction).  All returns must be in original packaging and unwashed, unused  and unworn.  SALE & SECOND items cannot be returned. Postage and packaging will not be refunded unless Baby Caterpillar accept that the product is faulty. We do not take responsibility for garments damaged due to failure to follow our washing instructions.

How do I return an item?

You can return any Baby Caterpillar garment that you purchased online as long as they are unworn, unwashed and still in the original packaging. You can get either a full refund of the purchase price or exchange for any reason within 45-days or purchase.
